The Romanoffs
The series will center around the Romanov family. The Romanov family, for those unaware, were the last imperial dynasty to rule Russia. The family was killed after an attack by revolutionaries in 1918, but the remains of one of the czar's daughters and his only son were never found. The mystery of the "Romanov survivors" has pervaded through the ages, with multiple people claiming to either be a survivor or a descendant of one.
Catherine the Great
Catherine the Great delves into the politically tumultuous and sexually charged court of the most powerful female monarch in history. Catherine wielded supreme power throughout Russia for nearly half of the 18th century - strong-minded, independent, brilliantly intelligent and sexually liberated, she was the definition of the modern woman.
The miniseries will follow Catherine towards the end of her reign and her passionate affair with Grigory Potemkin. Amid scandal, intrigue and immense conflict, this is a story of obsessive love. Unable to publicly marry and famously promiscuous, they develop a unique and devoted relationship, overcoming their adversaries and together shaping Russia as we know it today.
Empire of The Tsars: Romanov Russia with Lucy Worsley
The Romanovs are best known to us as the Russian royal family killed by revolutionaries in 1918. But there's more to one of Europe's most powerful dynasties than a tsar who could have been King George V's twin, a "missing" princess, Anastasia, and a mysterious magical man, Rasputin.
The Romanovs ruled Russia for more than three centuries, after all, and Lucy Worsley is eager to tell their extraordinary tale. From the reluctant 16-year-old Romanov boy who didn't want to be king, to Peter the Great and Catherine the Great, she documents the royal family's reign and asks how their rule affected the lives of the ordinary people who eventually tore the family's world down.
Lucy tells the story of the dynasty that ruled Russia for more than three centuries, including figures such as Peter the Great and Catherine the Great, the struggle against Napoleon in 1812, and the political murders of Nicholas II and his family in 1918.
Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone
At the start of the 1990s the Soviet Union - one the largest empires in the world - imploded. It was not a slow collapse like the British Empire, but one that collapsed suddenly - in just a few months.
This series of films is a record of what it felt like to live through that catastrophe.
